The upper galeries may have been used by musicians and even singers during the seventeenth century for elaborate polyphonic compositions using multiple choirs and instruments, as suggested by the anonymous painting in the Museo Correr [von 1690], but were unlikely to have been occupied by singers in the sixteenth century (pl 17).

Warum soll im 17. Jh. die Polyphonie "elaboriert(er)" gewesen sein als im 16.?? Die grobe Tendenz der musikalischen Entwicklung verlieft doch gerade in die andere Richtung: Weg von der Polyphonie, hin zur Monodie.
